Description
Arnaud Lambert Saumur-Champigny Les Terres Rouges is a Cabernet Franc from the iron-rich red clay soils that give the cuvee its name.
Saumur-Champigny lies east of Saumur on the left bank of the Loire, where a cap of sand and clay sits over tuffeau limestone and Cabernet Franc is the only red grape of consequence. Les Terres Rouges takes its name from the ferrous red clay found in parts of the appellation, soils that ripen the grape reliably and give a rounder, fruit-forward wine. Arnaud Lambert farms his vineyards at Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg and Breze organically. The fruit is hand picked, largely destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeast, then raised in tank and older wood to keep the wine fresh and free of oak.
Supple and immediately drinkable, it goes with charcuterie, roast chicken, pork and lentil dishes; serve at around 15 to 16 degrees.
