Description
Arnaud Lambert Saumur Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg Coulée de Saint-Cyr is a dry single-site Chenin Blanc from a sloping parcel above the domaine's home village.
A coulée in the Loire is a small valley or fold in the slope, a shape that concentrates sun and drainage, and the term is attached to some of the region's most closely watched Chenin sites. Arnaud Lambert farms from Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg on the tuffeau plateau south of the Loire, home of his family's Domaine de Saint-Just, and also works the historic vineyards of the Château de Brézé. At Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg the soils are thin over tuffeau limestone, and a parcel with this aspect ripens ahead of the flatter plateau while keeping the cool subsoil beneath it. The winemaking follows the estate's usual pattern for its site-specific whites: whole-bunch pressing, fermentation with indigenous yeasts and a long élevage on fine lees in seasoned barrels, bottled dry with no attempt to mark the wine with new wood.
A serious dry Chenin built for the table and for keeping, it suits roast veal, lobster and aged Comté; serve at around 12 degrees.
