Arnaud Lambert Saumur Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg Les Perrières 2023

Arnaud Lambert Saumur Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg Les Perrières is a dry Chenin Blanc from a plateau parcel named after the old stone quarries cut beneath it.

Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg sits on the tuffeau limestone that defines Saumur, a soft chalky rock hollowed into cellars and quarries beneath the vineyards themselves. Arnaud Lambert farms from the village, home of his family's Domaine de Saint-Just, and also works the historic vineyards of the Château de Brézé. Les Perrières takes its name from those old quarry workings, and the shallow soils over fractured stone drain freely while keeping the roots cool, so the Chenin ripens without losing acidity. Whole bunches go to the press, fermentation runs with indigenous yeasts, and the wine is aged on its fine lees in seasoned barrels so that texture builds without obvious oak. The estate is certified organic and the vineyard work is done by hand through the growing season.

A dry, mineral style with the flesh to take richer food, good with roast pork, grilled fish and hard cheeses; serve at around 11 degrees.
