Description
Arnoux-Lachaux's Bourgogne Pinot Fin is made from seven parcels of the old Pinot Fin cultivar, including one planted at Prémeaux in 1959.
The Bourgogne appellation is the region's broadest, so the quality of a wine at this level rests on the terroirs, the plant material and the farming behind it, and this bottling has long been one of the best examples of the category. The old Prémeaux vineyard in Nuits-Saint-Georges perennially suffers millerandage, producing tiny berries and bunches and very low yields of concentrated juice. Localised hail at Prémeaux meant that around half of this release instead came from Chambolle-Musigny, with a quarter each from Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Cropped at a modest 32 hectolitres per hectare, it is the domaine's highest-yielding cuvée from the season. It was vinified with whole bunches throughout and raised with 15 per cent new oak, giving a striking, textural and layered wine well above its appellation.
Drinking well now and good for five years or so; serve at 16-18°C with charcuterie, roast chicken or mushroom dishes.
