Description
This regional Bourgogne is made entirely from Pinot Fin, the old non-clonal selection, grown in seven parcels across the heart of the Côte de Nuits.
Arnoux-Lachaux is based in Vosne-Romanée, and the sourcing for this wine explains why it has long stood out within the Bourgogne appellation: roughly half the fruit comes from Chambolle-Musigny, with a quarter each from Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges. One parcel at Prémeaux, in Nuits-Saint-Georges, was planted in 1959 and reliably suffers millerandage, producing tiny berries and bunches and very low volumes of concentrated juice. The whole cuvée was cropped at 24 hectolitres per hectare, less than half the legal maximum and, remarkably, the highest yield in the domaine's range that year. It was fermented with one hundred per cent whole bunches and raised exclusively in mature barrels, so nothing sits between the fruit and the glass.
Drinkable young but better with three to five years; serve at 16-18°C with charcuterie, roast chicken or a mushroom tart.
