Arnoux-Lachaux Bourgogne Pinot Fin 2021

Arnoux-Lachaux Bourgogne Pinot Fin is a regional Burgundy built entirely from non-clonal Pinot vines growing inside some of the best-known villages of the Côte de Nuits.

Bourgogne is the catch-all appellation of the Côte d’Or, and what it delivers depends almost entirely on who farms it and where the fruit sits. Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux, based in Vosne-Romanée, draws this cuvée from seven parcels of Pinot Fin, the old massale-selected material that predates the modern clonal nursery. Roughly half the blend comes from Les Bon Bâtons in Chambolle-Musigny, with a quarter each from Les Croix Blanches in Vosne-Romanée and Les Chaillots and Grand Chaillot in Nuits-Saint-Georges. A further parcel at Prémeaux was planted in 1959 and perennially suffers millerandage, setting tiny berries and loose bunches that cut yields and concentrate the juice. The farming and the plant material are the point here, and the wine reads as a scaled-down account of the lighter, more transparent style the domaine has moved towards.

Drinkable now and worth keeping five to eight years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom risotto or a washed-rind cheese.
