Description
Arnoux-Lachaux Chambolle-Musigny is drawn from five domaine parcels at the top of the slope, up against the limestone cliffs above the village.
Chambolle-Musigny is the most aromatic of the Côte de Nuits communes, its thin, stony soils giving wines of scent and fine texture rather than mass. Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux owns 1.62 hectares here across Clos des Danguerrins, Les Creux Baissants, Les Fouchères and Derrière le Four, all high on the slope where the rock is closest to the surface. Average vine age is around forty years. Most of the parcels face north, and the combination of cool aspect, altitude and rocky limestone soil produces a wine with pronounced mineral energy and considerable perfume for a village bottling. As elsewhere in the range, the fruit was fermented with whole bunches and raised in used oak, so the structure comes from stems and site rather than new wood.
Drink from two or three years and through the following decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast quail, pork belly or a plate of soft cheeses.
