Description
This Chambolle-Musigny comes from five domaine parcels at the top of the slope, near the limestone cliffs above the village.
Chambolle-Musigny is the most perfumed of the Côte de Nuits communes, its thin soils over limestone giving wines of scent and fine texture. Arnoux-Lachaux owns four terroirs here, Clos des Danguerrins, Les Creux Baissants, Les Fouchères and Derrière le Four, covering 1.62 hectares with an average vine age of forty years. The parcels sit high up, mostly facing north, on rocky, limestone-rich ground, and the combination of altitude and cool aspect gives a wine with pronounced mineral energy across the palate. Charles Lachaux farms with tall untrimmed canopies and very low yields and vinifies with whole bunches and restrained oak. There is a darker core here than in the domaine's Vosne wines, but the elegance and length associated with the village come through.
Ready at three or four years and good for twelve. Serve at 16-18°C with duck, roast pork or a plate of mild washed-rind cheeses.
