Description
Arnoux-Lachaux Grand Cru Latricières-Chambertin comes from a 0.53-hectare parcel of old vines at the highest and coolest end of the grand cru, bordering Clos de la Roche.
Latricières-Chambertin lies at the northern end of the Gevrey-Chambertin grand cru band, directly above Chambertin and running to the boundary with Morey-Saint-Denis. Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux, based in Vosne-Romanée, bought this parcel of fifty-eight-year-old vines and first made the wine in 2007. It sits in the highest, coolest section of the vineyard, with part of the plot enclosed by woodland on three sides, and the ground is notably rocky. The parcel is ploughed by horse. Charles Lachaux has taken the domaine towards very low yields, high trellising, whole-bunch fermentation and sparing use of new wood, and this cuvée was made from around 7.5 hectolitres per hectare, fermented with whole bunches and raised with about ten per cent new oak. The result leans on perfume, line and fine structure rather than weight.
Cellar for a decade or more; it will keep well beyond that. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom risotto or aged hard cheese.
