Description
This Latricières-Chambertin comes from a 0.53-hectare parcel bordering Clos de la Roche, in the highest and coolest part of the Grand Cru.
Latricières-Chambertin sits directly above Chambertin at the southern edge of Gevrey-Chambertin, on thin, stony soil, and it is generally the most tightly drawn and mineral of the Chambertin family. Arnoux-Lachaux bought the parcel of fifty-eight-year-old vines that produces this wine and made its first Grand Cru here in 2007. It lies at the top of the vineyard, with part of the planting enclosed by woods on three sides, which keeps the site cool. The rocky parcel is ploughed by horse. Charles Lachaux's viticulture, with high trellising, no trimming and very low yields, is directed at ripeness of flavour at moderate sugar levels, and the wines are made with whole bunches and little new oak, so tension and perfume come before power.
Needs five to ten years and will hold for twenty. Serve at 16-18°C with roast venison, duck or a mature washed-rind cheese.
