Arnoux-Lachaux Grand Cru Romanée-Saint-Vivant 2021

Arnoux-Lachaux farms a 0.35-hectare parcel of Romanée-Saint-Vivant bordering La Romanée-Conti, La Tâche and La Grande Rue.

Romanée-Saint-Vivant lies at the foot of the Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru slope, on deeper, richer soils than its neighbours above, and is known for perfume and finesse rather than bulk. The Arnoux and Lachaux families have worked this parcel since 1928, and it sits alongside the vines farmed by Cathiard. The vines are around ninety-five years old and rooted in rich, rocky clay. Charles Lachaux now manages the site organically, ploughing by horse, pruning by the Poussard method and leaving the canopy untrimmed, part of a viticultural approach that has reshaped the domaine over the past decade. Jasper Morris MW has called the wine the quintessence of Vosne-Romanée. Quantities are extremely small, and the wine ranks among the most sought-after in Burgundy.

Tightly wound in youth and built for the long haul; give it a decade and drink over the following twenty years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast game, truffled dishes or aged hard cheese.
