Arnoux-Lachaux Nuits-Saint-Georges 2020

Arnoux-Lachaux Nuits-Saint-Georges is a village red assembled from seven parcels at the northern end of the commune, towards the Vosne-Romanée border.

Nuits-Saint-Georges divides into two halves either side of the town, and the northern sector, running up to Vosne-Romanée, is generally the more perfumed and less firmly structured of the two. Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux farms 1.42 hectares here across seven plots of similar size, five of them more than forty years old. From south to north the lieux-dits are Les Brulées, Aux Tuyaux, Aux Saint-Jacques, Aux Lavières and Au Bas de Combe, the last of these sitting on the Vosne boundary. The domaine has held this land for many years but bottles the wine only intermittently. Charles Lachaux's methods apply throughout the range: very low yields, hand-harvesting, whole-bunch fermentation and ageing in used barrels, so the wine carries the aromatic lift of stems without oak flavour on top.

Give it three to five years and drink over the following decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, coq au vin or a mushroom tart.
