Description
This village Nuits-Saint-Georges is assembled from seven parcels in the north of the commune, running towards the Vosne-Romanée boundary.
Nuits-Saint-Georges is a large commune, and its northern end, closest to Vosne-Romanée, generally gives finer, more scented wines than the sturdier southern sector. Arnoux-Lachaux farms 1.42 hectares of low-yielding vines spread across seven similarly sized plots there; from south to north they are Les Brulées, Aux Tuyaux, Aux Saint-Jacques, Aux Lavières and Au Bas de Combe, the last of these on the Vosne border. Five of the parcels are over forty years old. The domaine's approach, with tall untrimmed canopies, horse ploughing in the older vines, whole-bunch fermentation and very little new oak, is directed at delicacy, and the contrast with the appellation's usual register is striking.
Drinking well from three years and good for a dozen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, braised beef or a mushroom tart.
