Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes 2018

Les Chaumes is a Vosne-Romanée premier cru sitting just below Aux Malconsorts and La Tâche, where Arnoux-Lachaux farms 0.74 hectares.

Vosne-Romanée is the most celebrated red wine commune of the Côte de Nuits, and Les Chaumes occupies the lower slope at its southern end. The site carries a little more clay and iron than most of the surrounding premiers crus, which tends to give more depth and structure than a young Vosne usually shows; with time those tannins melt and the perfume and texture typical of the village come forward. The domaine's rows run from the top of the parcel to the bottom, and the crop was held to just 26 hectolitres per hectare in this release. Charles Lachaux works with high trellising, gentle extraction and a substantial proportion of whole bunches, which suits a site of this weight.

Worth five years or more in the cellar; serve at 16-18°C with roast game, beef fillet or an aged hard cheese.
