Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes 2020

Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes comes from 0.74 hectares in the middle of a premier cru that sits directly below Aux Malconsorts and La Tâche.

Les Chaumes occupies the lower slope at the southern end of Vosne-Romanée, beneath some of the most celebrated ground in Burgundy. It carries a little more clay and iron than most of the neighbouring premiers crus, which tends to give more depth and firmer structure than a young Vosne usually shows; with time those tannins soften and the commune's characteristic perfume takes over. Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux farms rows running from the top to the bottom of the middle sector of the vineyard. Charles Lachaux crops these vines extremely hard, at under 10 hectolitres per hectare in the season behind this release, and works with whole-bunch fermentation, gentle extraction and ageing in used barrels.

Worth five years in the cellar and good for fifteen or more. Serve at 16-18°C with roast beef, duck breast or truffled mushrooms.
