Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée 2020

Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée is a village red from three parcels totalling 0.57 hectares on the flatter ground below the village.

Vosne-Romanée is the spiritual centre of the Côte de Nuits, and even its village land, worked properly, can carry a good deal of the commune's perfume. Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux draws this wine from Aux Communes, Aux Saules and Bossières, three plots below the road. The domaine has been in Vosne for generations and has been run since 2012 by Charles Lachaux, whose changes have been thorough: higher trellising to increase leaf area, later picking, no herbicide, and yields cut to a fraction of the permitted maximum, in this instance around 10 hectolitres per hectare. Fermentation is with whole bunches and there is no new oak, the wine going into barrels that have already seen several vintages. The aim is transparency to site rather than density.

Drink from three years and across the following decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, mushroom risotto or a mild washed-rind cheese.
