Ashton Hills Gamay 2025

Ashton Hills Gamay is a juicy, lightly spiced Adelaide Hills red made from the grape of Beaujolais.

Established in 1982 by Stephen George, this small estate in the cool, high Piccadilly Valley made its name with some of Australia's most admired Pinot Noir, and has been part of the Wirra Wirra family since 2015. Gamay is a natural companion to that focus: an early-ripening, thin-skinned variety that loves a cool climate and rewards a gentle hand. Here it is made to capture the grape's bright, crunchy fruit, with wild strawberry, raspberry and cranberry lifted by rosewater and a little white pepper, and darker, earthy notes underneath. Fresh acidity and fine, dusty tannins keep it light on its feet.

Give it 30 minutes in the fridge and serve at around 12 to 14 degrees. It is a great match for charcuterie, roast chicken, duck, mushroom dishes and a summer barbecue, and is easy to enjoy on its own. Drink over the next few years while the fruit is at its liveliest.
