Ashton Hills Piccadilly Valley Pinot Noir is a fragrant, fruit-rich expression of the variety that made this Adelaide Hills estate famous.

Pinot Noir has been the heart of the property since Stephen George planted his first vines in the high, cool Piccadilly Valley in 1982, and over four decades it has become one of the most respected names for the grape in Australia. Wirra Wirra took over in 2015, with continuity in the vineyard and winery. Some whole bunches go into the ferment, adding lifted florals and a light peppery spice to the red cherry, strawberry and raspberry fruit. The palate brings in darker cherry and plum, framed by fresh acidity, fine tannins and subtle earthy notes.

Pinot like this is at its best a little cooler than room temperature, around 14 to 16 degrees. Try it with duck breast, seared salmon, mushroom risotto or roast pork. It drinks well young but will also build complexity over five years or more in the cellar.
