Ashton Hills Reserve Chardonnay 2023

Ashton Hills Reserve Chardonnay is a tight, complex cool-climate Chardonnay built for the cellar.

Stephen George founded the estate in 1982 on a high ridge in the Adelaide Hills and spent decades refining a small range of site-driven wines, before handing on to Wirra Wirra in 2015. The Reserve is a selection of the best Chardonnay parcels, made to show more depth and structure than the standard bottling. Aromas of white peach, green melon and florals are joined by cashew, beeswax and buttered brioche from winemaking. The palate is fine and focused, with stone fruit and kiwi, harmonious acidity and a pithy, tight texture that suggests it will build with time.

It's worth a decant if you open it now, or put it away for several years to let it open up. Serve at around 10 degrees with crayfish, scallops, veal or chicken in a creamy sauce.
