Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir 2025

Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir is the fresh, early-drinking Pinot Noir from one of Martinborough's founding estates.

Clive Paton planted the first vines on the Martinborough Terrace in 1980, and the estate has since become one of New Zealand's most respected names for Pinot Noir. Its vineyards sit on shallow silt loam over deep, free-draining alluvial gravels, and the main holdings have moved to certified organic farming over the past decade. Crimson draws on younger vines from several Ata Rangi parcels, giving a style built on fresh fruit and perfume, and it is matured in French oak barriques with only a modest share of new wood. The name honours Project Crimson, a charitable trust working to protect New Zealand's native pōhutakawa and rātā trees, which Ata Rangi has supported for many years.

Serve it lightly cool, at around 14 to 16 degrees, alongside roast lamb, duck, mushroom dishes or grilled salmon. It's a supple, perfumed wine made for enjoying young, so there's no need to decant or cellar it.
