Ata Rangi Kotinga Pinot Noir 2024

Ata Rangi Kotinga Pinot Noir is one of a trio of single-vineyard Pinots from this celebrated Martinborough winery.

Founded in 1980, Ata Rangi has spent four decades learning the nuances of Martinborough's windswept terraces, and the single-site wines are its way of letting individual vineyards speak. Kotinga is planted to Dijon clones, and 2024 was a strong growing season in the district. Aromas of red jelly crystals, pomegranate, raspberry and aniseed open up to wild strawberry, cardamom and a hint of beeswax. Good fruit weight coats fine, structured tannins, giving a plush mid palate and a long, slowly unfolding finish.

A gentle chill to around 15 degrees helps the aromatics. Serve with slow-roasted pork shoulder, duck and cherry, or grilled mushrooms with thyme. Approachable young, it will gain complexity over the next five to eight years.
