Ata Rangi Pinot Gris 2024

Ata Rangi Pinot Gris is a complex, perfumed Martinborough white from a vintage the winery rates among its very best.

Grown at the southern end of the North Island, where cool nights and strong spring winds keep crops small, this Pinot Gris has a richness and depth that sits closer to Alsace than to crisp Italian Pinot Grigio. The estate, planted in 1980, is best known for Pinot Noir, but its whites are made with the same attention. Pear, lychee and citrus meet rose, jasmine and citronella on the nose, followed by nutmeg and ground ginger spice. The palate balances phenolic texture with fresh acidity, finishing with wet stone and a gentle herbal note.

Serve lightly chilled with spiced dishes such as a mild curry, pork belly or duck pancakes, or with roast chicken. This vintage has the depth to reward a few years in the cellar.
