Description

Audrey Wilkinson Merlot is a medium-bodied Hunter Valley red from the historic Pokolbin estate.

Merlot is not a traditional Hunter variety, but the region's early harvest and moderate ripeness suit it, giving a softer wine than the estate's Shiraz without the weight Merlot can carry in hotter places. The vineyard was planted in 1866 by Audrey Wilkinson, a surveyor's son who became one of the valley's founding growers. Fermentation is in stainless steel with maturation in French oak.

Serve at 16 degrees with roast chicken, pork or a mushroom dish. Drink over the next six years.
