Description
Babo Langhe Nebbiolo comes from south-west facing sites near Castiglione Falletto and is raised in concrete rather than oak.
Langhe Nebbiolo is the appellation that catches fruit from in and around the Barolo communes without the ageing requirements of Barolo itself, and in the right hands it shows the grape's perfume without its weight. Babo, the project of Justin Bubb and his team, sources this wine from vineyards close to Castiglione Falletto, mainly facing south-west at between 300 and 400 metres. The 2021 season brought spring frosts that cut yields and a warm summer, but the fruit came in well at the end. Picking is by hand, the fruit is destemmed and macerated for about a week with pumpovers twice a day, and the wine is then held in concrete tanks for a short period only. Concrete keeps the red fruit bright and leaves the tannins firm but open rather than building structure for the long term.
Drink over the next three to five years. Serve at 16-18°C with tagliatelle al ragù, roast pork or a mushroom risotto.
