Description

Bachelet-Monnot Bourgogne Blanc Côte d'Or comes almost entirely from vines in and around Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne.

The Bourgogne Côte d'Or appellation was created to separate regional wine grown on the Côte itself from fruit drawn more widely across Burgundy, and this bottling shows why the distinction matters. It comes from 1.3 hectares of 20- to 50-year-old vines spread over four parcels in the Puligny area, plus a plot of younger Chassagne vines on chalky soil. Marc and Alexandre Bachelet farm these sites with the same attention they give their premiers crus, and the winemaking is deliberately hands-off: gentle pressing, spontaneous fermentation and ageing in 350-litre barrels rather than smaller pièces. The wine has good fruit, juicy freshness and just enough reduction to give it grip, and it is one of the more serious whites made at this level on the Côte.

Drink over the next four or five years with grilled fish, roast vegetables or a soft goat's cheese. Serve at 10–12°C.
