Description

Bachelet-Monnot Bourgogne Rouge is a regional red Burgundy drawn from three parcels of vines between 60 and 80 years old.

Bourgogne Rouge is the broadest of the region's appellations and its quality rests entirely on where the fruit is grown. Marc and Alexandre Bachelet, better known for their whites from Maranges, Santenay and Puligny, assemble this red from three sources: a parcel of old-vine Pinot Fin in the Hautes-Côtes, a block of village-level vines in Maranges, and a Bourgogne parcel on the edge of Puligny-Montrachet. The Puligny fruit brings perfume, Maranges the depth of fruit, and the Hautes-Côtes the structure and high-toned lift. The vines are 60, 70 and 80 years old, unusually venerable for wine at this level. Fermentation was spontaneous in concrete tanks with 20 per cent whole bunches, after which the wine spent a year in barrel and six months in tank before bottling, giving a perfumed, lifted expression of the Côte de Beaune.

Ready on release and good for five or six years, it suits charcuterie, duck rillettes or a mushroom tart. Serve at 16°C.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
