Description

Bachelet-Monnot Chassagne-Montrachet is a village white drawn from six parcels spread across the commune.

Chassagne-Montrachet occupies the southern half of the great white slope of the Côte de Beaune, where limestone and marl soils give Chardonnay a little more flesh than neighbouring Puligny. This cuvée is assembled from six well-sited parcels: La Canière, Le Chêne, Les Benoîtes, Pot Bois, En Journoblot and Les Houillères. Most lie below the premiers crus; Pot Bois is the exception, one of the highest vineyards in the village, above Clos Saint-Jean, while Les Houillères sits below Bâtard-Montrachet. The average vine age is around 30 years. Marc and Alexandre Bachelet treat their whites the same way throughout the cellar — gentle pressing, spontaneous fermentation and ageing in 350-litre barrels, which gives less oak contact than the standard 228-litre pièce — so the wine is fleshy but precise, with a powdery lick of structure.

Drink over the next six to eight years with roast pork, crab or a soft cow's-milk cheese. Serve at 10–12°C.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
