Description
La Fussière is the largest climat of Maranges, and Bachelet-Monnot's white comes from four small parcels at its highest reaches.
Maranges lies next to Santenay at the very south of the Côte de Beaune, and La Fussière covers almost 35 hectares facing south towards the start of the Côte Chalonnaise, on a slope running between 290 and 400 metres. The soils are marly limestone, and the altitude keeps the acidity firm. Bachelet-Monnot, run by brothers Marc and Alexandre, is one of the reference domaines of this southern end of the Côte, and has made a white from La Fussière for many years alongside the red. The four parcels average around 40 years of vine age and sit high on the slope where ripening is slower. The wine is raised with 25% new oak, giving a pure and taut style rather than a broad one.
Drink from release through the next eight years, with grilled fish, roast chicken or a gruyère tart, at 10 to 12°C.
