Description

La Fussière is the largest climat of Maranges, and Bachelet-Monnot's cuvée gathers seven parcels of sixty-year-old vines within it.

Maranges lies at the far southern end of the Côte de Beaune, next to Santenay, and has long been overlooked; the appellation's reds are increasingly worth attention as growers there work with more precision. La Fussière covers almost 35 hectares, facing south towards the start of the Côte Chalonnaise on a slope between 290 and 400 metres. The Bachelet brothers, better known for their Chassagne and Puligny whites, have built their holding here to three hectares, with an average vine age of sixty years and a new parcel added in 2020. The wine spent twelve months in used casks and was then racked to cement vats for roughly six months. Thirty per cent whole bunches were included. The aim throughout has been a finer, more aromatic style of red from the Côte's southern reaches, and this limestone-rich site suits that.

Approachable now and good for eight to twelve years. Serve at 16 to 18°C with roast pork, coq au vin or a mushroom pie.
