Bachelet-Monnot Meursault Clos du Cromin 2022

Bachelet-Monnot Meursault Clos du Cromin is drawn from a 0.21-hectare parcel, half of it planted by the brothers' grandfather more than 90 years ago.

Clos du Cromin sits on the northern side of the Meursault vineyards, close to the Volnay boundary, enclosed by dry-stone walls and facing south to south-east. The soil is deep and rich in red clay with a good deal of rock beneath, a powerful and early-ripening terroir equally suited to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Bachelet holding is small: half the vines are original plantings, among the oldest in Meursault, with the rest going in during 1998. Alex Gambal, Patrick Javillier and Confuron-Cotetidot also farm here, and typically make a fleshier wine than the brothers, whose reading of the site is closer in shape to their Puligny. The result is deep and cool rather than broad, with a long, sappy finish.

Approachable from two years and good for a decade. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled john dory or a mushroom gratin.
