Description
Bachelet-Monnot Meursault Clos du Cromin comes from a 0.21-hectare parcel of vines over 90 years old, planted by the brothers' grandfather.
Clos du Cromin sits on the northern side of the Meursault vineyards near the Volnay boundary, enclosed by dry-stone walls and facing south to south-east. The soil is deep and rich in red clay, though plenty of rock sits beneath, and it is a sunny site that ripens early, equally suited to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Marc and Alex Bachelet's holding is small, but the vines rank among the oldest in Meursault. Other growers work the same vineyard, and in Bibendum's experience they tend to make a fleshier wine than the more Puligny-like style the Bachelets draw from it here. Fermentation is spontaneous and the wine is raised in 350-litre barrels, the domaine's standard vessel, which limits new oak character and lets the clay-driven weight of the site carry the wine.
Approachable from three years and holding for ten. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled marron or a Gruyère tart.
