Bachelet-Monnot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières comes from a premier cru lying at the same altitude as Chevalier-Montrachet.

Les Folatières is among the larger and most highly regarded premiers crus of Puligny-Montrachet, running up the slope beside Les Pucelles and Clavoillon and just below La Truffière. The name is said to derive from folles-terres, or crazy earth, a reference to the violent erosion these slopes suffer in heavy rain. Marc and Alexandre Bachelet farm around half a hectare in the lower, eastern pocket of the vineyard, next to Leflaive, where the soil is particularly rocky. The parcel is naturally low-yielding, giving tiny bunches with little juice, and Marc Bachelet notes that although the vines are only in their forties they behave as though twice that age. Winemaking follows the domaine's usual pattern of gentle pressing, spontaneous fermentation and ageing in 350-litre barrels, which keeps oak influence low and lets the site's delicacy stand.

Open from release or hold for five to ten years, with turbot, roast poultry or a young goat's cheese. Serve at 10–12°C.
