Bachelet-Monnot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts 2024

Bachelet-Monnot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts is a white Burgundy from a premier cru known locally as Petit Bâtard for its clay-rich soils.

Puligny-Montrachet is the reference point of the Côte de Beaune for Chardonnay grown on shallow limestone, and Les Referts sits on the Meursault side of the village, immediately below Les Combettes. Its clay content is what earned it the Petit Bâtard nickname, a nod to the depth and texture it shares with the nearby grand cru Bâtard-Montrachet. Domaine Bachelet-Monnot is run by brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet from Dezize-lès-Maranges, and has built its name on precise, unforced whites across the southern Côte de Beaune. Their holding here is 0.45 hectares of 40-year-old vines near the top of the slope, alongside Sauzet. The soils are very stony, which brings generosity and flesh without dulling the mineral charge or the chewy extract the site is known for. As across the domaine's whites, fermentation is spontaneous and ageing takes place in barrel with restrained new oak.

It rewards three to ten years in bottle and suits roast chicken, scallops or a washed-rind cheese. Serve at 10–12°C.
