Bachelet-Monnot Puligny-Montrachet 2024

Bachelet-Monnot Puligny-Montrachet is a village white assembled from a dozen parcels across the commune.

Puligny-Montrachet is the Côte de Beaune's benchmark for taut, mineral Chardonnay, its vineyards sitting on shallow limestone with a high water table that keeps the vines from ever becoming too generous. The domaine now works 12 parcels in the village, many of which feed this cuvée; the core comes from Les Meix, Les Enseignères, Corvée des Vignes, Les Noyers Bret and Les Houillères, well-placed sites where the youngest vines are 25 years old and the average is considerably higher. As across the domaine's white range, the fruit is pressed gently, fermented with indigenous yeasts and raised in 350-litre barrels, a format Marc and Alexandre Bachelet favour because it limits oak influence. The result is a village Puligny with structure and depth as well as the lifted florals, citrus and saline close the appellation is known for.

It will drink well for eight years or so, with grilled john dory, chicken in cream sauce or a fresh goat's cheese. Serve at 10–12°C.
