Description

Bachelet-Monnot's village Santenay Blanc is drawn from four parcels of mature vines on the exceptionally chalky soils at the south of the Côte de Beaune.

White wine is a minority pursuit in Santenay, but the ground on the Maranges side suits Chardonnay well, and this cuvée has been in the domaine's range since 2012. The key terroir is the lieu-dit Les Bras, a continuation of the Maranges Premier Cru La Fussière, with Le Chainey providing the balance of the blend. The vines average around 30 years of age. Marc and Alexandre Bachelet built their reputation on whites of tension and precision, and the chalk here gives exactly that: mouthwatering acidity with a fine grip on the finish rather than weight. Élevage follows the house pattern of barrel ageing with restrained new oak, keeping the emphasis on the site.

Drink now and over the next six years. Serve at 10 to 12°C with oysters, roast white fish or a soft goat's cheese.
