Description

Bachelet-Monnot Santenay Vieilles Vignes is drawn from three small parcels of vines now over 60 years old on the rocky ground above the domaine's Maranges vineyards.

Santenay is the last appellation of the Côte de Beaune before the Côte Chalonnaise, and the best of its reds have long been undervalued. Jasper Morris has written that the finest of them have a depth of fruit and a velvet texture that bears comparison with the Côte de Nuits, a view the Bachelet brothers share, which is why they have been working more and more here. Alongside Les Charmes Dessus, the domaine now farms a parcel in Les Prarons Dessus on the Chassagne border and three small plots spread across Le Chainey and Les Bras, high on rocky mountain soils above their Maranges vines. This Vieilles Vignes comes from the latter group, where the vines have passed 60 years and yields are naturally small, giving a Santenay with more concentration and finer grain than the village norm.

Worth two or three years in bottle and good for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, duck confit or mushroom-based dishes.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
