Balthasar Ress Hattenheim Schützenhaus Riesling Kabinett 2023

Balthasar Ress Hattenheim Schützenhaus Riesling Kabinett is a Rheingau Riesling from one of the larger vineyard sites in the village of Hattenheim.

Kabinett is the first rung of Germany's Prädikat ladder, given to wines made from grapes at the lightest of the ripeness levels the law recognises; picked earlier than the rest, they are modest in alcohol, and outside of trocken bottlings they generally keep a little of their natural sugar. Schützenhaus is an Einzellage on the gentler ground behind Hattenheim, a village that sits on the Rhine between Erbach and Oestrich in the middle of the Rheingau, with soils of loess and marl. Weingut Balthasar Ress was founded at Hattenheim in 1870 and has stayed with the same family since, working sites across the region and bottling them separately.

Serve at 9 to 11°C as an aperitif, or at the table with lightly spiced dishes and cured or smoked pork; Kabinett of this kind can also be kept for a decade.
