Balthasar Ress Hattenheimer Nussbrunnen Riesling Trocken GG is a dry Grosses Gewächs Riesling from one of the top classified vineyards in the Rheingau.

Founded in Hattenheim in 1870, this family estate is now run by the fifth generation and is a member of the VDP, Germany's association of leading growers. Its vineyards have been certified organic since 2016. Nussbrunnen, which takes its name from a spring once shaded by walnut trees, lies on the slope behind the village and is classified VDP.Grosse Lage, the highest tier. Its deep loess and loam soils hold water well and tend to give Riesling with more breadth and weight than the stonier sites nearby. GG is the designation for a dry wine from a Grosse Lage, harvested by hand at low yields.

Chill well, though not ice cold, so the texture and detail can show. Try it with roast chicken, pork schnitzel, pan-fried trout or scallops. Dry Rieslings of this level usually improve for a decade or more in the cellar.
