Description
Bannockburn 1314 Rosé is a dry, savoury rosé from old vines on the estate's Winery Block.
Wild ferments, variety by variety, are the method here. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz each go into tank on their own indigenous yeasts before the blend is assembled, and the wine then spends three months across old barrels and stainless steel. The vines sit on the Winery Block, planted in 1981, 1990 and 1996, which is old material for a wine at this price and the reason there is so much substance in a category that often has none. The whole estate is farmed organically on clay over limestone in the Moorabool Valley, west of Geelong.
Juicy and fleshy, with sweet summer berries and spicy forest fruit over a savoury base and a wet-stone finish. There is enough weight to take on real food. Serve at 9 to 10 degrees with grilled lamb, spiced chicken skewers, a tomato and burrata salad, or paella.
