Bannockburn 1314 Shiraz 2025

Bannockburn 1314 Shiraz is a dark, peppery Geelong Shiraz drawing on the estate's oldest Shiraz vines.

Two sets of vines feed this: the historic Range vineyard, planted in 1974, and blocks from 1990 and 1996 on the Winery Block. That is genuine old-vine material at a price which does not usually buy it, and it is the reason the wine has the depth it does. Picking was pitched for brightness, the fruit destemmed and fermented on skins for seven days, then pressed off to mostly older hogsheads with a tenth new, where it sat nine months. The estate is farmed organically on volcanic soils over limestone in the Moorabool Valley, west of Geelong.

Inky and ripe, with plum, dark cherry and a meaty edge, and hints of blood, violet and spice pushing out of the glass. The palate is svelte and juicy, framed by fine dusky tannins with earthy minerality behind. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees with roast beef or grilled eggplant.
