Bannockburn Chardonnay 1.5L MAGNUM 2019

Bannockburn Chardonnay 1.5L MAGNUM is a magnum of the estate's flagship Geelong Chardonnay.

No sulphur was added at any point until bottling, which takes nerve and shows in the wine's texture. The fruit is drawn mostly from Olive Tree Hill, planted in 1976, and the Winery Block from 1981, both on volcanic soils over limestone with an average vine age around thirty-five years, with a more recent addition from Kelly Lane and its Clone 76 material. Whole bunches were pressed and the juice settled overnight before fermenting in 500-litre French oak puncheons, a fifth of them new. Sixty per cent went through malolactic conversion, then ten months on lees with minimal stirring. In magnum a wine like this ages more slowly.

Bright and floral to open, with citrusy freshness cutting through generous stone fruit and a savoury, saline close that is this estate's fingerprint. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees in big glasses. Roast chicken, a whole baked snapper, or a baked camembert for a table of six.
