Bannockburn Chardonnay 1.5L MAGNUM 2022

Bannockburn Chardonnay 1.5L MAGNUM is a magnum of one of Victoria's most consistent Chardonnays.

Few Victorian Chardonnays have a record like this one, and it comes down to the sites: Olive Tree Hill, planted in 1976 and abutting the S.R.H. parcel, and the Winery Block from 1981, both organically farmed on volcanic soils over limestone clays with vines averaging around thirty-five years. Kelly Lane's Clone 76 joined the blend recently and this release adds a small component from Stuart's Block. Fruit was whole-bunch pressed and settled overnight, then wild-fermented in a mix of 500-litre French oak hogsheads and puncheons, a fifth of them new. Seventy per cent completed malolactic and the wine spent ten months on lees, unstirred.

A mouth-watering balance between fruit weight, tensile acidity and supple texture. Stone fruit sits against richer, nuttier characters, with crystalline freshness and a tangy grip through a long finish. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees, and in magnum, with a roast and several people.
