Bannockburn Chardonnay 1.5L MAGNUM 2023

Bannockburn Chardonnay 1.5L MAGNUM is a magnum of estate Chardonnay from Geelong, including fruit from the close-planted Grigsby block.

Tiny yields in 2023 meant no separate Grigsby Chardonnay could be made, so that exceptional close-planted parcel went into the estate blend instead, with everything that implies. It joins Olive Tree Hill, planted in 1976 next to the S.R.H. parcel, the Winery Block from 1981, Stuart Block from 1997 and Kelly Lane from 2016. All are organically farmed on volcanic soils over limestone clays. As usual the bunches went whole to press and the juice found its own yeasts in French hogsheads and puncheons, a fifth of them new, with seventy per cent through malolactic and ten months on lees, no stirring.

Full-throttle and vivacious, saturated in flavour with crystalline cut, fleshy richness and remarkable length. This is the estate at full stretch. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees in a generous glass, with roast pork belly, lobster, or a whole fish for the table.
