Description
Bannockburn Chardonnay 1.5L MAGNUM is a magnum of Geelong estate Chardonnay taken through full malolactic conversion.
The clonal mix is P58 alongside Bernard 76, 95 and 96, spread across sites with different spacings and planting densities: Olive Tree Hill from 1976, the Winery Block from 1981, Stuart Block from 1997, the close-planted Grigsby from 2007 and Kelly Lane from 2016. All are organically farmed on volcanic soils over limestone clays. Whole bunches were pressed and the juice fermented naturally in a mix of French hogsheads and puncheons, a quarter of them new. Every drop went through malolactic conversion this year, followed by ten months on lees with no stirring.
Fleshy with stone fruit and citrus, underpinned by chalk, flint and a nutty, doughy richness. Saturating presence, piercing acid and a precise, long finish. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees. A magnum suits a long lunch: roast chicken, a seafood spread, or a cheese course.
