Description
Bannockburn Chardonnay is a precise, wild-fermented Chardonnay from the estate's Geelong vineyards.
Plantings spanning forty years feed this wine: Olive Tree Hill, the Winery Block, Stuart Block, Grigsby and Kelly Lane, put in between 1976 and 2016 and planted to P58 and Bernard 76, 95 and 96. Hand-picked fruit was pressed as whole bunches and fermented on indigenous yeast in French hogsheads and puncheons, a quarter of them new, with seventy per cent completing malolactic and ten months on lees without stirring. Everything is farmed organically on volcanic soils over limestone clays. The 2025 season was warm and dry with a compressed harvest, the earliest the estate has recorded, and the wines came in generous and clear.
Bright acidity carries ripe stone fruit, grapefruit and pear to a long, composed finish of tension and purity. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees in a decent glass. Roast chicken, grilled king prawns, a mushroom risotto, or hard cheese with quince.
