Bannockburn De La Terre Pinot Noir Museum 2011

Bannockburn De La Terre Pinot Noir Museum is a cellar-matured, close-planted Geelong Pinot Noir.

The 2011 season ran mild and even through Geelong, and the wines it produced lean towards lift and freshness. Fruit for this one came off the sloping, close-planted block put in during 2007 — 10,000 vines a hectare, around 500 grams a vine, clones 777 and 114 in north-south rows below the Serré plateau. Seventy-five per cent whole bunches went into the ferment. Twelve months in barriques, a third of them new, were followed by another twelve in mature wood before bottling, and the bottles then rested in the estate’s cellar until the Hooper family judged them ready.

Fully in its window now: filigree in place of force, with dried cherry, forest floor and sweet spice over settled tannin. Serve at 15 degrees and drink it soon. Roast chicken, duck rillettes, or a plate of jamón.
