Description
Bannockburn Gamay is a tiny-production Gamay grown on the estate’s Olive Tree Hill slope in Geelong.
North-facing clay over limestone, a 1.4-acre block planted in 2014 and grafted to Gamay in 2019: the numbers are small and the site is specific. The 2025 season ripened evenly and gave concentrated fruit with clear definition, which is what this variety needs to avoid tasting either green or flabby. Everything came in by hand and fermented with full whole-bunch carbonic maceration in small bins before pressing to a 1,300-litre old oak vat, where it sat for ten months ahead of bottling. Nothing in the handling is designed to get in the way of the fruit.
Bright red fruits lifted by spice and a fine herbal thread, with fine tannin and a supple flow that keeps purity and savour in balance. Serve at 13 to 14 degrees, no decanting needed. Rotisserie chicken, pork terrine, or grilled vegetables with anchovy.
