Bannockburn Grigsby Chardonnay 2025

Bannockburn Grigsby Chardonnay is a close-planted single-vineyard Chardonnay from the Moorabool Valley in Geelong.

Named for the man who has run the vineyards for 35 years, the wine comes off 0.87 acres grafted from Shiraz to Bernard clone 76 in 2019. Grigsby and Matt Holmes brought that Dijon material in to broaden a clonal mix that started out almost entirely Penfolds. Close planting is the other lever, since high vine density concentrates the fruit and builds texture without adding bulk. The site was previously known as De la Roche, of the rock, and the wine keeps that compact, stony structure: expansive but never loose, with grip, power and a saline lift. The most complete version of this block to date.

Broad and rich, with ripe stone fruit, fennel, white chocolate and creamy oak, then nougat and spiced yoghurt across a palate that stays gripped and saline. Serve at 12 to 13 degrees. Roast pork belly, lobster, or aged gruyère.
