Bannockburn Pinot Noir 1.5L MAGNUM 2022

Bannockburn Pinot Noir in 1.5-litre magnum is the estate’s Geelong Pinot Noir, drawn from every one of its blocks.

Each block came in by hand and fermented on its own, 20 per cent whole bunches overall with a small carbonic portion, before pressing to a mix of hogsheads and puncheons — a fifth of them new — for ten months ahead of blending. The plantings run from 1976 through 1997 to 2007 and take in the close-planted sites, all of them on volcanic loam and dark clay above limestone, mostly MV6 with Dijon clones 114, 115 and 777 scattered through. Large format slows the whole thing down, and there is more than enough structure here to carry it.

Bright red fruit with the savoury, earthy signature threaded through, supple in the mouth, finishing on a sweet-and-sour twist that hints at what age will bring. Serve at 15 degrees. Roast duck, pork loin, or a mushroom and thyme tart.
