Bannockburn Pinot Noir 1.5L MAGNUM 2023

Bannockburn Pinot Noir in 1.5-litre magnum is the estate’s Geelong Pinot Noir from a very short vintage.

Yields in 2023 fell roughly 50 per cent on an already meagre 2022, and the shortfall reshaped the blend: with no De La Terre made that year, fruit from that close-planted block went in here instead, alongside Olive Tree Hill from 1976, 10 Rows from 1991, Stuart Block from 1997 and Anns Block from 2004. Volcanic loam and dark clay over limestone runs beneath all of them, planted mainly to MV6. Blocks fermented separately with about 20 per cent bunches and a little carbonic, then pressed after seven to ten days to hogsheads and puncheons, a fifth new, for ten months.

Pure-fruited and open from the start, red-berried and pretty, with savouriness running underneath and fine, gentle tannin. Serve at 15 degrees. Roast chicken, duck breast, or wild mushroom pasta — and in magnum, worth keeping a few years.
